Welcome to our website

The LHRB began life in 2005, because a friend of mine, drummer and agent Richard Pite who was staying with me for a few days, having his annual mini-break (we live at the sea-side), over lunch one day said "do you fancy putting a band together and doing a cruise?" He was trying to find a band for a month long cruise to South America.

I asked him when it was and he told me it was from the middle of November to the middle of December. A quick check of my diary revealed not enough work so I said leave it with me and I'll see what I can do. My first choice on every instrument said yes and that is how the band was born.

Our musical policy from the start was to play 1920s/30s jazz and based loosely on Red Nichols and his Five Pennies with some traditional jazz that falls within that scope.

We have stuck to this but have branched out with arrangements from other bands from the same era.

Oh Yes! We had a fantastic time on the cruise, the band was great, we packed the room where we played, made lots of friends and went to some wonderful places. And they paid us!

I then joined the Chris Barber Band and The Rhythm Boys had to take a back seat for the next 5 years, late 2010 we re-formed and now I am able to devote most of my time to them.

The band line-up is pretty much as we started with just a couple of changes due to commitments, we have also added the option of a female vocalist, see the band page for full details.
